WACO, Texas — Authorities have identified the suspect in a fatal shooting Tuesday that left a local man dead.

Investigators have identified a suspect in the shooting death of an unarmed man, Waco Police Chief Charles Beck said in a statement Thursday.

The Waco Tribune-Herald identified the man as 30-year-old Joseph Leland, of Waco, Texas.

He was charged with murder and related crimes.

The newspaper reported that police found Leland at a gas station parking lot with a loaded handgun.

Police say they believe the two had a fight and Leland shot him.

Authorities identified the victim as 29-year old Joshua Williams, of West Virginia, who was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon after a confrontation in his apartment complex parking lot.

The newspaper said Williams was unarmed when Leland opened fire.
