The Kansas City Police Department said Wednesday that it has arrested a man accused of fatally stabbing a 44-year-old woman in the city’s Central Business District.
The suspect, who is described as a white man, was taken into custody without incident in the parking lot of the downtown shopping center shortly after midnight, said Officer Ryan Houghton.
Officers said they were called to the area of Sixth Street and Central Avenue for a report of a person in an area with a possible stab wound.
When officers arrived at the scene, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, Houghtons said.
The officer said it was not immediately clear if the victim had been stabbed.
Police have not released the suspect’s name.
A motive for the attack has not been released.
Police believe the suspect was involved in a stabbing earlier Wednesday and were searching for him, Houghtons said.
They are asking anyone with information to call police at 816-337-7000.
