A new poll from the nonpartisan Pew Research Center finds that nearly three-quarters of Republicans are willing to support impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump if he refuses to step down.
The poll, released Tuesday, found that 52 percent of Republicans support impeachment, and 44 percent said they oppose impeachment proceedings.
The president’s approval rating is at 45 percent, the poll found, while his disapproval rating is 45 percent.
The majority of Americans (57 percent) believe impeachment should happen, while just 26 percent think it should not.
The survey was conducted Feb. 15-17 among 1,007 adults.
The results were based on landline and cell phones.
Pew surveyed 1,002 registered voters in the U.S. and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
The margin of error is 3 percentage point for all adults and 4.6 percentage points for registered voters under age 30.
