The Washington Post used a fake news story to publish an article about a mass shooting on Thursday that killed at least four people and injured many others.
The article, titled “At least four dead after Washington Post story about mass shooting,” appeared in the paper’s website.
But the article also made reference to a mass shooter in Orlando who killed 49 people and wounded dozens more at a gay nightclub in June 2016.
The Post later removed the article, saying it had “misconstrued” the shooter.
The paper later apologized.
“We were wrong in publishing the false article, which we regret,” the paper said.
“It was never our intention to make light of a terrible tragedy, and we sincerely regret that we made that mistake.”
