Anushkumar Bhagat, who directed The Lovely Bone, was also nominated for best director.
He is the grandson of the late Anushkar, a producer of films in the 1920s and 30s.
Bhagat said, “It is an honour to be nominated for a best film award at the Bollywood Oscars.
I am excited to take on this great honour.
I have never been a director before and I will be taking on the challenge with my team of talented people, the film industry and friends.”
Anushkin Sharma was the first Indian director to win the BFI Film Award for Best Director in 1977.
Sharma, who was born in Pune, has been making films since the 1980s.
His debut film, The Lovely Boys, was released in 1978.
He has worked in films for almost all genres, including dramas, documentaries, thrillers, music videos, comedy, romantic comedies, westerns and romance films.
His latest film, Bijapour, won the Best Film at the 2018 Bollywood International Film Awards.
Sharma has also directed films for several other film festivals including the Berlin International Film Festival and the Venice International Film Film Festival.
